Rs120-crore revamp plan for Dadar station unveiled

Come 2014, Dadar will be a model railway station in the country. Union railway minister Dinesh Trivedi, who was on a visit to Mumbai, on Friday announced a Rs120-crore revamp plan for Dadar station, promising to make it a dream station for the Indian Railways in the next two years.

The project also includes a major revamp of Khar station by developing it into a complex.

“Dadar is the place where both the zones meet. And we have a plan for a complete revamp of the station. Soon you will find platforms at Dadar free of any stalls or infrastructure, and all that is there will be on roof plazas,’’ Trivedi said.

“Work on the elevated corridor parallel to the Tilak Bridge has already begun. And the station will be completely revamped to make it commuter-friendly. The station will be an example for the country to follow,’’ he said.

Accompanied by architect PK Das, the minister got into details of the plans and visited the station’s platforms and foot over-bridge and then went over to the station’s terrace to get an overall view of the complex.

“The station will have more than 25 entry and exit points and will be clutter free. It will be done on a private-public partnership basis at the cost of about Rs120 crore and will be done in two years,’’ he said.

Central Railway general manager Subodh Jain, who showed him around both CR and WR station complexes, said the elevated corridor would have a capacity of about 800 cars to park.
