The NSC has organised a total of 13 workshops this year which cover disciplines like creative sciences, model rocketry, aeromodelling, astronomy, computers and multimedia, electronics and robotics
While the Nehru Science Centre (NSC) in Worli has decided to introduce new workshops like 'Making Mathematics Toys', the Nehru Planetarium has introduced a workshop to help students get rid of their fear of Maths. It's an annual practice by the NSC and NP to introduce creative workshops packed with fun that are attended by several students where they gain hands-on experience of otherwise tough concepts.
The NSC has organised a total of 13 workshops this year which cover disciplines like creative sciences, model rocketry, aeromodelling, astronomy, computers and multimedia, electronics and robotics and 3D printing to name a few. These are designed for students of class 3 to 10. There will also be three batches of a workshop called 'Science Sparkles', designed for students of class 3 to 5. There will also be four batches of robotics workshops which will be held from April 23 to June 5.
Umesh Kumar, Curator, Education Department, NSC, said, "Registration for the workshops will begin on April 2. These workshops feature innovative science experiments, exposure to multimedia using the latest technology, exploring science through interactive exhibits, quizzes, live science demonstrations, and lectures. We may also introduce a science toy making workshop for students from class 6 and mathematics toy making workshop for students from class 8 onwards. Many parents talk about the positive changes they see in their children after attending these workshops."
The science lab which was started in NP last year demonstrates to students how seemingly boring concepts from their science textbooks actually work in daily life. Topics like astronomy, biology, electricity, magnetism, heat and sound are covered in these workshops. This year, a new topic called Kitchen Chemistry has been introduced in the NP lab curriculum. It uses items commonly found in kitchens along with some lab chemicals to demonstrate chemistry to students in its simplest form.
Arvind Paranjpye, Director, Nehru Planetarium, said, "We are planning to introduce Mathematics in our workshop to make it student-friendly. Students often attend the workshops because their parents forced them to but after it begins, they don't want to leave."
