Sudhir Sawant: AAP to contest upcoming elections in Maharashtra

The Aam Aadmi Party has decided to contest all the seats in the forthcoming general elections (to be held in 2019). It was announced by Brigadier Sudhir Sawant the state Convener of AAP. He also said that it was a mistake that the party didn't contest the previous assembly and BMC polls.

On Saturday the party's chief who recently joined the Party met a few media members. During the discussion, he said, "We have decided to contest all the elections. If the booth level leadership is ready we may think of contesting the local body elections of Washim and Akola which will be held before the general elections."

The party is power in Delhi right now, believes that it has a strong mass base in Mumbai, which will support them if they want to contest the elections.

"The common man is tired of BJP, but in an absence of a powerful alternative they are voting for the BJP," said Sawant.

Sawant also clarified that they might go for an alliance but at no cost with the four major parties of Maharashtra — BJP, Shiv Sena, Congress, and NCP. They are looking for smaller parties which will help them form an alliance.

In Mumbai, the party claims it has a lot of candidates who are intellectual and can put up a good fight and win the Parliamentary elections.

Starting from August 15, the party in the state is planning a campaign via which it aims to connect with the masses.

However, Sawant feigned ignorance when asked about the recent controversy that his party chief landed in about the expenditure during the swearing-in ceremony of Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.
