Two years after anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare protested against malpractices by rural and urban credit co-operative societies resulting in non-payment to investors, the issue has come into focus again with the additional Pune district consumer disputes redressal forum ordering a Junnar-based urban credit co-operative society to pay over Rs40 lakh to its investors.
Shivner Urban Credit Co-operative Society in Junnar had failed to repay the amounts invested by its shareholders after maturity of its investment plan scheme.

More than 10 victims had moved the court which received eight separate complaints seeking their money back.

Hoping for good returns on their investment, the complainants invested in a scheme by the credit society, but whenever they approached the society after completion of the maturity period of the scheme they were not only refused the principal amount, but also the accrued interest on the investment.

In this regard, Tulshiram Virnak, Prakash Ghule, Shantaram Hinge, Anjana Bele, Rukmini Ghogare, Kalyanrao Gawde, Attar Razzakbhai, Nirmala Pawar and others filed separate complaints in the consumer forum.

During the trial, the credit society did not deny anything about investment by the complainants, so all the complaints were admitted by the forum and the deposit slips were considered as proof of investment.

After perusing the case, the forum ordered the credit society to pay the invested amount with the interest within one month.
