It’s not only the Federers and Nehwals who find place in DNA’s sports section. Budding local players like Aditi Mutatkar, Harshad Khadiwale and Arjun Kadhe also get the much deserved space here.

At DNA Pune, we take pride in covering local sports with the same enthusiasm as national and international events. Here’s what some of our readers have to say about our efforts…

More interviews with professionals will add to the charm of the page

DNA’s sports section is good and it covers most local events. There is always something to look forward to on the local sports page. It keeps us updated on the latest news in the city. I also like that all sports are covered impartially.
The reports and articles are great, but I would love it if there are more interviews. Dialogue with prominent sportspersons and upcoming players should be included to add to the charm of the page. In that way, there would be a good balance of articles and interviews.

Professionals sharing their thoughts and experiences would be interesting and informative for the readers. It will be beneficial for players as well. DNA is doing well and I hope it continues to cover most local sports events.

Covering uncommon sports will give enthusiasts a reason to cheer
I like the clear approach of the sports section. However, I think some sports are not covered seriously. This aspect should be improved upon. More importance should be given to sports like cycling.

There are a number of sports enthusiasts in the city other than those playing popular sports. They should be given space in your paper as well.

I would love to see the paper covering all events, even uncommon games. Other sports do not get due importance even if iconic people pursue them. Recently, many groups of cyclists went on an expedition from Pune to Hyderabad and Goa, but this event was not highlighted by the media.

Many of the participants were senior citizens. By reporting this, the paper would have sent a good message to society and more people would have been encouraged to take up cycling. Covering uncommon sports will give enthusiasts a reason to cheer.

DNA provides an impartial and fresh view of sports news
The sports section is quite good in terms of coverage. It is vibrant and provides a refreshing approach to sports. The reports are good and I am happy with them. The paper takes an impartial view and covers all sports.

The best part is that local sports are also given equal importance with national and international events. I don’t dislike anything about this section. All in all, it is interesting.

Local school-level sports events should be covered extensively by DNA
I like the sports section. A sports page essentially needs to cover sports, which DNA does. It does not concentrate on immaterial news. The paper provides good coverage to sports. However, I feel local school-level sports need to be covered more extensively. The paper should promote budding players in the city.

Our city lads will soon break into the Indian Premier League (IPL). So, we are bound to see a good amount of local talent in the Sahara Pune Warriors team. These players need a boost and the paper should highlight their work. By doing so, DNA would be standing up for Pune.

Sports stars can be discovered in this manner. It is not only about cricket, the paper should take an initiative and give prominence to other games as well. The achievements of unknown sportspersons should be reported; it will be a great morale booster to them.

Sportspersons need the backing of a good and genuine paper. The sports section is definitely doing good work, but encouraging budding players will help the world of sports further.

Certain sports get all the coverage in most newspapers; DNA must avoid that
I love DNA. It has been in the market for just three years, but has managed to do what newspapers of 30 years or more have not done. Thus, it is doing a commendable job. The page covers local events, which is extremely encouraging for local sportspersons. It will be even better if local school events are covered.

This will motivate students to work harder.

Everyone else covers other news, so if DNA focuses on school-level sports along with national and international coverage, it will benefit the paper and budding players.

A newspaper is a good medium for players to let people know about their work. Sportspersons need this kind of exposure. Apart from helping them individually, it boosts the game as well.

Only certain games get all the coverage in most newspapers. DNA should go beyond those sports and cover games that are not as popular. Local players do find a place in DNA, so definitely the sports section is doing appreciable work.
