The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah took on X to announce Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team on Tuesday.

"It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Mr @GautamGambhir as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has witnessed this changing landscape up close. Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward," Jay Shah wrote.

"His clear vision for #TeamIndia, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role. The @BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey," it further read.

Former India opening batter Gautam Gambhir stood as the leading candidate to replace Rahul Dravid as India's head coach. After he rejoined KKR as a mentor for this year’s IPL, which resulted in the team winning their third IPL season, Gambhir became the most preferred choice for BCCI to coach Team India.

Earlier on 1 July, Jay Shah had also confirmed that Team India's new head coach will join the squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka series, starting from July 27.
