Gavaskar said that he was not contacted by anybody and that he was not in the council for the money, since he felt that he owed a lot to the game.
Former skipper Sunil Gavaskar today said that he was unaware of BCCI's decision to drop him from the trimmed Governing Council of the Indian Premier League at its AGM held in Mumbai today.
The legendary cricketer also said canards have been spread against him that he had asked for Rs five crore to sit on the panel of the council.
"Nobody from the BCCI has contacted me. This is a news to me which has come through different news channels. I don't even know what has happened. I have not heard anything and I still don't know whether I am in or out of the Governing Council.
"Also canards have been spread against me and if that is so, then it's unfair towards me. It's an honour and duty to serve Indian cricket in any capacity. I did not take a single penny from the Board when I worked for them in different capacity," Gavaskar told NDTV.
In a major revamp of the IPL, Gavaskar was today dropped from the Twenty20 League's revamped Governing Council. The decision to drop Gavaskar from the IPL GC was taken by the Cricket Board in its 81st Annual General Meeting here, which also appointed interim chairman Chirayu Amin as the full-time chief of the Twenty20 league.
The BCCI did not give any reason for dropping Gavaskar from the council but there was speculation that it could be a result of the Board's decision to not pay the cricketers, who were earlier getting Rs one crore a year, in the panel.
Board chief Shashank Manohar, when asked about reports that Gavaskar had asked for crores to be part of the panel, said: "you have to ask Mr Gavaskar about it".
Gavaskar said as far as Indian cricket is concerned, he would love to get associated with it in any form without charging a single penny from the board.
"I will get associated with it (cricket) if board asks me to do so. It's a privilege and I have no issues. What I am today is because of cricket.
"I didn't take a single penny when I was the coach of the Indian team, as the consultant of the Indian team, as the chairman of the National Cricket Academy, as the chairman of the other committees of the BCCI. I don't know from where all the stories are doing round that I am asking for money," Gavaskar clarified.
