France maintained their composure and successfully converted all of their penalty kicks in the post-match shootout to narrowly defeat Portugal 5-3 after a goalless draw in their European Championship quarter-final match on Friday.

Theo Hernandez sealed the victory with a well-placed kick after Joao Felix's attempt, the third for Portugal, struck the post. France will now face Spain in the semi-finals on Tuesday in Munich.

The loss for Portugal likely marks the end of Cristiano Ronaldo's illustrious 21-year international career, as he missed a crucial opportunity during the shootout. France's triumph serves as redemption for their previous penalty shootout defeats in the last Euros and the 2022 World Cup final.

Ousmane Dembele, Youssouf Fofana, Jules Kounde, and Bradley Barcola all confidently converted their penalty kicks for the victorious French team.

The match started slowly but ended with numerous missed chances for both teams in regulation time and extra time. Despite not scoring from open play in the tournament, France has advanced to the semi-finals with the help of own goals and penalties in their previous matches.
