Satnam Singh Bhamara becomes first Indian to be drafted in NBA

Satnam Singh Bhamara has made history. 7 feet 2 inches tall basketball player became the first Indian to be drafted in  NBA League. 19-year-old Punjabi lad has been picked up by Dallas Mavericks. After Sim Bhullar, Satnam is set to become only second Indian-origin basketball player to feature in NBA.

At 19-year-old, Satnam is one of the 91 players to be nominated as early entry candidates for 2015 NBA Draft. The nominated group included 48 players from colleges and post-graduate institutions and 43 international players.

For the last five year along with players from 39 countries, Satnam Singh has been training in Florida, US on an initiative of USA-based IMG Reliance Academy, reports NDTV.

The Mavs drafted Satnam Singh with the 52nd pick in the NBA Draft. And at the press conference, Dallas Maverick owner, Mark Cuban, welcomed Satnam saying that now they have a billion Maverick fans!

In the year 2011, at the age of 16, Satnam became the youngest player to represent India at the 26th Asian Basketball Championship at Wuhan in China.

Since their inaugural 1980–81 season, The Dallas Mavericks have won three division titles (1987, 2007, 2010), two conference championships (2006, 2011), and one NBA Championship (2011)
