Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a conversation with Olympic Bronze Medalist Manu Bhaker on Sunday, commending her outstanding performance in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event at the Paris Olympics. Modi praised Bhaker for her historic achievement, highlighting her as the first Indian woman to secure an Olympic medal in shooting.

During their discussion, the Prime Minister conveyed his pride and excitement, expressing, "Manu, hearty congratulations to you... Hearing about your success has filled me with enthusiasm and joy."

In response, Bhaker acknowledged the government's support, emphasizing the availability of necessary facilities. Modi empathized with her for narrowly missing the silver medal, stating, "Though you missed the silver by 0.1 points, you have still made the country proud." He commended her resilience and determination in the face of adversity.

Bhaker responded enthusiastically, "Absolutely, sir. There are more matches ahead, and I am determined to continue performing well in them."

Modi then expressed his unwavering confidence in her future performances, stating, "I have full faith that you will excel in the upcoming matches as well. Your success will not only boost your own enthusiasm and self-confidence but also benefit the country as a whole."

The Prime Minister inquired about the well-being of Manu Bhaker and her teammates. Bhaker responded that everyone was in high spirits and conveyed their regards. Prime Minister Modi emphasized the government's commitment to providing top-notch facilities for the athletes.

"We try to give as many facilities as we can to our players. We try to provide whatever comfort is required in view of the games," PM Modi remarked.

Earlier, on the microblogging site X, the Prime Minister praised Manu's victory as an "incredible achievement."

“A historic medal! Well done, @realmanubhaker, for winning India’s FIRST medal at #ParisOlympics2024! Congrats on the Bronze. This success is even more special as she became the 1st woman to win a medal in shooting for India. An incredible achievement!” PM Modi wrote.

At just 22 years old, Bhaker made history by winning a bronze medal in Shooting at the Olympics, ending India's 12-year medal drought in the sport. She also became the first female shooter from India to achieve this remarkable feat.
