A refrigerated beach! Heat never got any better

DUBAI: The globe-trotting visitors to tourist city of Dubai will have to face no more scorching days at beaches as the popular destination will soon offer the world's first refrigerated beach.
       
Dubai's Palazzo Versace, the hotel named after the fashion house, is to create the world's first refrigerated beach and an internal swimming pool, so that hotel guests can walk comfortably across the sand on summer days, a report revealed on Tuesday.
    
This would be the lone beach of its kind to serve all those who love walking on sand--a surprise and comfort at the same time, UK's Sunday Times newspaper revealed.
    
The beach will have a network of pipes beneath the sand containing a coolant that will absorb heat from the surface where summer temperatures average 40C and can reach 50C.
 
"We will suck the heat out of the sand to keep it cool enough to lie on. This is the kind of luxury that top people want," said the report quoting the founder and president of Palazzo Versace, Soheil Abedian.
    
The hotel, which  is part of Dubai's Culture Village project, was initially planned to open in June next year but is now likely to open either late next year or early 2010.
    
The 10-storey hotel will have over two hundred rooms, many with their own internal swimming pools, and 169 condominiums. The cooling system will be controlled by thermostats linked to computers, the paper said.
 
The report also quoted Rachel Noble, the campaigns officer at Tourism Concern, a group which promotes sustainable tourism, as saying that the carbon generated by such projects would contribute to climate change.
