Amitabh Bachchan’s quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ has changed the lives of countless people. From winning thousand of rupees to lakhs, the show not only provides support to people but also acts as a medium to spread knowledge. ‘KBC 13’ on Tuesday (August 31) witnessed its first-ever visually impaired contestant Himani Bundela, who also emerged as the season’s first crorepati.
The show started with Amitabh Bachchan asking Himani the 15th question for Rs 1 crore. The question was:
Q. Which of these was an alias used by Noor Inayat khan to work as a spy for Britain in France during the Second World War? A) Vera Atkins, B ) Krystyna skarbek, C) Julienne Eisner, D) Jeanne Marie Renier.
Himani, who didn’t have any lifelines left with her, took a guess and said, “Jai mata di. Neehce giri toh koi nai, bhagwan ki marzi hai (If I lose, it will be god’s will).” The correct answer is Jeanne Marie Renier, after answering which Himani won the grand prize of Rs 1 crore and also a Hyundai Aura car. Her father got emotional and said that Himani has made them very proud.
Q. What was the title of the thesis that Dr. BR Ambedkar submitted to the London School of Economics for which he was awarded his doctorate in 1923? A) The wants and means in India, B) The problem of the Rupee, C) National dividend of India, D) The law and lawyers.
After pondering upon the question for a while, Himani said that the money is very important for her family and decided to quit. The correct answer was The problem of the Rupee.
Himani came to the show on Monday and presented her challenge and emotional life story. Upon a question from Big B, Himani told him that she was involved in an accident in 11th grade which led to several injuries and she bled from various organs as a result of it.
Later, when she experienced some discomfort in her eye, she saw an eye doctor, who informed her that the impact of the accident had caused her retina to shift out of place. The doctor informed her family that if they did not have surgery within the next 2-3 days, she would lose her vision. Himani then explained that within eight months she had 4-5 surgeries but nothing worked and she lost her vision completely.
Himani completed her further education from a university that specialised in providing education to physically challenged people and now works as a teacher in a school with both children with and without disabilities. She makes them study accordingly.
