Dr Shailesh Vadodaria, renowned UK-based plastic surgeon, on Tuesday announced his decision to launch 'Help Smile', a charitable trust dedicated to helping  under-privileged people. This humane and benevolent endeavour is aimed to bring back the smiles on the faces of under-privileged children of Gujarat. The funds of the trust will be utilised for correction of palate deformities following burns and accidents and cleft lip surgery.

Dr Vadodaria, an aesthetic plastic surgeon who practices in London and who is on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council, UK, was in Vadodara to attend a medical conference. While announcing his new mission he said: "The charitable trust - Help Smile, UK - will bring in funds collected overseas to India to correct cleft deformities of children who are the future of our nation. The trust is in the process of being registered with the UK Charity Commission."

Vadodaria himself and a core team of professionals, which includes chartered accountant Rajeev Subedar, and Mohini Subedar and anaesthetist Dr. Mrs. Vadodaria head this trust. The funds collected will be sent to India for reconstructive work related to cleft deformities, accidents and burns. The formal unveiling of the trust will be done on March 14 in London.

Vadodaria, who hails from Bhavnagar, has a dream to build a charitable cleft lip palate reconstructive hospital in Gujarat that caters to deformities and provides complete medical assistance and surgical solutions to people deprived of these facilities due to economic, social and educational deprivation.

Vadodaria, along with Dr. Jan Lilja, has been visiting India every year since 2000 with a team of expert doctors from the UK and other countries. The team includes speech therapists, an orthodontist, a pediatrician, an anaesthetist, nurses and medical students, thus providing a holistic approach to treatment.

Vadodaria, who has been awarded an International Travelling Fellowship and JN Tata Scholarship for advanced training in Sweden, has inspired 42 specialists from UK, Sweden, Australia and other countries to join the worthy cause.

Over the last six years Vadodaria and his overseas team have treated over 400 cleft patients in India. Dr. Vadodaria pioneered the cleft lip and palate correction method in Mount Abu in 2002
