My show will be hip, fun and youthful: Nandita Mahtani

Travel experience-inspired clothes seem to be the buzzword of the season.

Nandita Mahtani is rolling out a line that is inspired by her love for voyages at the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. Malini Ramani in Mumbai and Ranna Gill in Delhi had also drawn inspiration from such experiences. However, Nandita’s ensembles are strikingly different with refreshing experiments in cuts and silhouettes. Interestingly however, Nandita, who generally does solo shows, is doing a joint show this time around.

“I’m looking at fashion shows from a purely business point of view. So, I’m doing a joint show to cut costs and look at more sales. We have just got out of the recession and being a Mumbai-based designer, travelling to Delhi does add to the expenses. Delhi has substantial buyers and so far I have really done really good business,” Nandita tells us.

The designer adds, “I don’t have drama on the runway. My show is all about my clothes. I want the buyers to concentrate completely on them when the show is around rather than being distracted by peripherals. It’s about my perspective towards fashion because in the end I’m an entrepreneur in business looking to maximise sales.”

Nandita also gives us an insight about her line. “My line is about a woman who loves to travel. No prizes for guessing, that’s me. So, I’m rolling out a show with the kind of clothes any modern woman would like to wear when she travels or decides to have a great time by going out to a party. The colours are really bright as I have a diverse palette. I don’t think the season is all about blacks and dull colours. My show will be hip and fun and youthful,” she concludes.
