Western Railway's train traffic around Bandra station was affected after a major fire broke out in the slums adjoining the station's platform number 1 on the west side. According to fire brigade officials, the fire- a number 2 one which means its intensity is fairly strong- started in the slums on the south side of the station. Several fire engines have been sent to the spot, said the fire control room. He said that there was no news of any injuries.

"Because of the fire, we are running the trains on the loop line on the south side of the station. This meant that trains were not touching platform number 1 but only platform number 2," said Sharat Chandrayan, chief spokesperson, WR.

Railway officials said that most of the shanties in the slum are now three-storeyed and above 20 feet and most of them jut out into railway territory.
