Mumbai cricketer Sarfaraz Khan, 17, created history by becoming the youngest cricketer to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) when he took the field for Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore against Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on Wednesday.

In February, Sarfaraz was the youngest player ever to come up for IPL auction. He was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 50 lakh.

At 17 years, 177 days, Sarfaraz beat Delhi seamer Pradeep Sangwan, who made his IPL debut at the age of 17 years, 179 days. Another Delhi batsman Unmukt Chand, who led India to U-19 World Cup win in 2012 in Australia, made his IPL debut at the age of 18 years 16 days.

Last week, there were reports that Sarfaraz was involved in a scuffle with Kolkata Knight Riders player Robin Uthappa after the match between RCB and KKR at the Eden Grdens, Kolkata. However, match referee Javagal Srinath denied receiving any complaint. "Nothing of that sort has happened… I've not received any complaint," Srinath told PTI. A KKR official also rubbished the reports.
