This filmmaker with several box office hits and a Rs 1000-crore blockbuster directed Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding video
The grand wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant had everything on the biggest scale possible. From the pre-wedding festivities to guests and even performers at the sangeet, everything was top-notch. So it’s no surprise that even the wedding video was directed by a top filmmaker, one used to giving Rs 1000-crore blockbusters. And it featured a voice-over from Amitabh Bachchan no less.
Anant Ambani, the younger son of Asia’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, tied the knot with business tycoon Viren Merchant’s daughter Radhika Merchant in Mumbai last week. The wedding festivities went on for ten days with the final three days reserved for the actual wedding. Among the guests were the who-is-who of Bollywood, international stars like John Cena and the Kardashians, and several social media influencers. Among them was podcaster Ranveer Allahabadia, who has now revealed some details about Anant-Radhika’s dream wedding.
In a video, Allahabadia – popular for his BeerBiceps podcast – revealed, “On day two of the wedding, they released a 10-minute movie, within the wedding, for the wedding guests. It was directed by Atlee, and the voiceover was done by Amitabh Bachchan. It was a micro-movie for the wedding.” Fellow guest, comedian Akaash Singh added that the interiors of the venue was decorated like a set of a Bhansali film. “They took a convention centre, and built a city inside that convention centre. Every part of this city looked like a Sanjay Leela Bhansali set. It looked like old, beautiful India that you see in the movies. There are four different floors, and every floor serves a unique purpose that is beyond just a wedding,” he said.
Atlee is one of the biggest contemporary directors in Tamil cinema with hits like Raja Rani, Theri, Mersal, and Bigil under his belt. Last year, he made his Hindi film debut with Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan. The film was the highest-grossing Indian film of 2023, grossing over Rs 1150 crore worldwide, and making Atlee one of the few Indian filmmakers in the elite 1000-crore club.
