Rajinikanth is one of the biggest Indian superstars. Arguably, everyone wants to share screen space with the pan-India star. However, today we will talk about an actor, Rajinikanth didn't want to work with. The Sivaji actor didn't want to work with this Bollywood superstar, and that's why he reportedly backed out from a blockbuster.

The actor Rajinikanth didn't want to work with was...

Raaj Kumar, the veteran actor, who was known for his blunt personality had very few friends in the film industry. When Mehul Kumar was directing his patriotic action drama, Tiranga, he approached Rajinikanth to play the second lead role in the film. Yes, not Nana Patekar, but Rajinikanth was the first choice for Shivajirao Wagle.

Director Mehul Kumar himself revealed this interesting fact in an interview. Appearing on the Friday Talkies YouTube channel, Mehul said that after signing Raaj Kumar for the lead role, he was finding it difficult to sign an actor for the second lead. The Krantiveer director approached Rajinikanth, who said that while he liked the story of the film, he wouldn’t want to work with someone as unpredictable as Raaj Kumar. After Rajinikanth, Naseeruddin Shah was also approached for the same role, but he also rejected the film.

The condition on which Nana Patekar signed Tiranga

Mehul added that someone suggested Nana Patekar, but when he approached the actor, he rejected the film saying that he doesn't do commercial films. Mehul Kumar said, “I called him up, but he said, ‘I don’t do commercial films’. I told him, ‘Listen, unless you do commercial films, nobody is going to know who you are’. At that time, arthouse movies wouldn’t even be released outside of Mumbai. I told him to listen to the story before making a decision, and he called me over the next day. He liked the story, but he had a condition. He said, ‘If Raaj saab interferes, I’ll walk off the set, and I won’t return’. Mehul made sure that the two leads never had any issues with each other during the production. Tiranga was released in cinemas on January 29, 1993, and became one of the biggest hits of the year.
