Nag Ashwin's latest blockbuster, Kalki 2898 AD, has brought back the vintage Amitabh Bachchan. The Angry Young Man of Bollywood impressed the young audience by pulling off action scenes with such finesse at 81. After years, a director has utilised the potential of a megastar to the fullest.

Today, we will discuss another Amitabh Bachchan-starrer from 2000, that was rested on the shoulders of the megastar and he delivered a fine performance. The character he played in this film, was inspired by the role he played in his breakthrough film, Zanjeer. Though this 2004 film had a promising ensemble cast, it was Amitabh's bravura performance that left filmgoers amazed. At the age of 64, he was doing action like he did in the 1970s, and this amazed his fans and the audience.

The ensemble film where Amitabh Bachchan became the scene-stealer was...

Khakee, Rajkumar Santoshi's directorial was loaded with a talented star cast, including Amitabh, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Aishwarya Rai, Atul Kulkarni, and Tusshar.

The inspiration for Khakee

As per the media reports, Santoshi wanted to make a cop drama with Amitabh Bachchan ever since he assisted director Govind Nihalani in Ardh Satya. As per IMDb, writer Sridhar Raghavan said he created Amitabh Bachchan's character by keeping the Angry Young Man image of him in Zanjeer 1973, but modified it according to the 21st century. What if Zanjeer's Inspector Vijay is living in current times? How would he fight against a corrupt system?

Actors who rejected Khakee

Reportedly, Akshaye Khanna was signed for the movie. However, he walked out of the project after he got to know that Amitabh Bachchan would be slapped by actors, who are much junior to him. He found it 'highly disrespectful' and left the film. Akshaye was then replaced by Tusshar. Initially, Ajay Devgn was offered Akshay Kumar's role, but he chose the antogonist and performed it with perfection. This was Ajay's third collab with Santoshi after The Legend of Bhagat Singh and Lajja.

Aishwarya Rai got injured during Khakee

As per IMDb, During the shoot in Nashik, Aishwarya Rai was hit by an out-of-control jeep and was thrown by the side of the road. Rai and Tusshar were rehearsing a scene where the jeep was supposed to come and stop 20 feet away from them. However, the jeep driver lost control and did not brake. She suffered a fracture on her left foot and some bruises.

Box office collection of Khakee

Khakee was one of the costliest films made at that time. Made with a reported budget of Rs 25 crores, the film grossed Rs 49.89 crores, making an average, and the fifth highest-grossing film of the year behind Veer-Zaara, Main Hoon Na, Dhoom and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi.
