This actress was upset on her wedding day as her mother had passed away a year earlier.
Bollywood star Juhi Chawla, in a recent interview, shared a personal story about her wedding with Jay Mehta. Speaking at an event hosted by the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the actress revealed that she cried just before her wedding because her mother had passed away a year earlier.
Juhi mentioned she was upset on her wedding day, she recalled how her mother-in-law supported her during that time and they significantly reduced the number of guests invited to the wedding as a result. She said, “I was shooting for some of the really big films of my career, and I was supposed to get married. My mother had just passed a year ago. When the marriage date was coming close, I was thinking my mother is gone, whom I loved the most, and now my career will also go away. I didn’t know how to be happy about it. So, I broke down one day and I told my mother-in-law and she said, ‘It’s okay.’ Can you imagine your a mother-in-law doing it for you?"
She added, "Invitations had gone out to maybe 2000 people. She said, 'Abhi nahi horahi hai (It's not happening now)'. She convinced the family to not have the big wedding and I got married but it was at home with just the family and closest friends. So with just 80-90-100 people the wedding was done. Imagine your mother-in-law cancelling those invitations which had gone out all over the world. I was a Punjabi eating chicken. Of course, after one-two years that got changed. Jay made me a vegetarian."
In the mid-80s, Juhi who was the daughter of an IAS officer entered the film industry and quickly rose to superstardom. Despite her success, she chose to marry a widower discreetly while at the height of her career. She kept the marriage secret until she became pregnant with their first child.
Juhu Chawla has been married to industrialist Jay Mehta since 1995. They are parents to two children. A daughter named Jhanvi and a son named Arjun.
For those who are unaware, Jay Mehta is a reputed Indian businessman and the Chairman of The Mehta Group which has businesses spread across Africa, India, Canada, and the United States. Jay Mehta's estimated net worth is a staggering Rs 1000-2400 crore, as per reports. The company, on the other hand, reportedly controls assets of around USD 500 million (Rs 4130 crore).
