Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer historic film ‘Gadar’ completed 20 years of its release on Tuesday (June 15). Both the actors took to their social media to express gratitude to everyone for making it an iconic film.

Sunny Deol took to his Instagram to share a still from the movie featuring him and Amisha Patel with Udit Narayan’s ‘Musafir Jaane Wale’ playing in the background.

Ameesha Patel also took to her Instagram and shared snippets from the film’s BTS, featuring her and late actor Amrish Puri, who played her on-screen father in ‘Gadar’.

While sharing the video, she wrote, “GADAR .. behind the scenes of the most iconic interval point of the most the most iconic film that Bollywood has seen till date .. thank u for all the love .. 20 years of GADAR .. #GADAR.”

Talking about his character, Sunny told IANS, “I have had the opportunity to play some great characters throughout my career but there was something special about the character of Tara Singh. He is soft and sweet but can bring the world upside down when it comes to his family and country.” 

He said that playing this character helped him "break out of a certain comfort zone". "That time we didn't predict that the dialogues and songs of the movie would become a rage. It's great to be celebrating a 20-year milestone with the country," he said.

While speaking to Indian Express, the film’s director Anil Sharma said while shooting for ‘Gadar’ he had an inkling that it’ll become India’s ‘Titanic’ and calls it god’s blessing that the film created such a record for itself.

“When I was making Gadar, I understood that it’ll become India’s Titanic and it did become one. When the record of tickets was revealed, we got to know its sale was even more than Titanic. Such was its footfall. To this day, it is said that Gadar had the maximum sale of tickets and footfall seen by any movie in India. We’ve had bigger filmmakers in our industry, but this is God’s blessing that my film created such a record. You see the magic is still the same when it airs on television even today,” he said.

'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha' is a period romantic action drama film directed by Anil Sharma and set during the Partition of India in 1947. The film also stars Lillete Dubey and Utkarsh Sharma.
