A vertical split – That's the restructuring exercise South Korean consumer electronics giant LG has planned to make its India ops more effective.

According to industry sources, the LG Electronics India business is expected to undergo a vertical split, particularly in the sales function area, as a result of which the company will have two sales heads.

"One of the heads will look after the northern and eastern region while the other one will handle the southern and western region," sources privy to the development told dna. According to them, the restructuring of sales function will be effective July 1, 2016.

But a spokesperson from LG Electronics, India, said, "There is no change or restructuring at LG Electronics" in response to dna's email.

Interestingly, this is not the first time that LG Electronics India has tried this structure. Many years ago, the company had a similar structure but it was only restricted to the air-conditioning vertical. "What's different this time around is that the new structure will be for the organisation as a whole and will cut across product categories," sources said.

As a result of this exercise, Sanjeev Agarwal who was national head of sales will now be in-charge of South and West while Rajeev Jain will take care of North and East. According to their LinkedIn profiles, Agarwal's current designation is vice president – sales, LG Electronics India while Jain is responsible for sales and marketing strategy as vice president – home appliances, LG Electronics India.

The company is also likely to have two head offices – one in Greater Noida and the second one in Bengaluru.

In fact, LG Electronics has made a few more changes in the way it has been operating its business in India. Just over a week ago, it poached Rahul Tayal who was head of buying, merchandising, logistics and store design at Tata group-owned Infiniti Retail Ltd that owns and operates Croma branded chain of consumer electronics stores across the country. Tayal will head LG's modern trade business.

Similarly, the company has also got on board Saif Iqbal, Snapdeal's head for electronics, to look into the e-commerce business that's gaining a lot of traction online.

Interestingly, last year in May, Kim Ki Wan, managing director, LG Electronics India, had told dna, that the company has never had a policy for online sales (in India) and that it was working on putting together an online strategy / policy to be able to make the products easily accessible on the various e-commerce platforms operational in India. The management was hoping to complete the exercise within fiscal 2016. "We are shaping our internal policy (for online sales) and are studying marketability and growth of online among other things. Within this year I will finalise our online strategy," Wan had said then.

In fact, the QC30 sports a breakthrough feature putting noise control in users hands, letting them adjust how much surrounding sound they block out or let in.
