Many billionaires reside in India and own thousands of crore of companies. Some started their business journey with a startup and later turned it into a big brand. One such person is Deepinder Goyal, co-founder and CEO of the food delivery service Zomato. The 41-year-old has joined the elite club of billionaires in India after the company's market capitalisation breached the USD 2 trillion mark on Monday.

According to Forbes, he has a real-time net worth of USD 1.4 billion or Rs 11700 crore as of July 15. His wealth rose by around USD 33 million this year. Deepinder owns 36.95 crore shares or a 4.24% stake in Zomato. Zomato's shares on Monday (July 15) hit an all-time high of Rs 232 a piece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The share closed at Rs 229.25.

Deepinder is an IIT Delhi graduate who co-founded Zomato in 2008 as Foodiebay along with Pankaj Chaddah. The platform was renamed Zomato in 2010. It became a unicorn (USD 1 billion) in 2018-19. The same year, Pankaj Chaddah exited the company. Zomato launched its IPO in 2021 which was oversubscribed 35 times. It was listed at a valuation of USD 12 billion, as per Forbes. In 2022, Zomato acquired the quick commerce platform Blinkit.

Meanwhile, Zomato has hiked the platform fee to Rs 6 from Rs 5 per order in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Its rival Swiggy, which had also increased the platform fee in select cities on Sunday.
