Two bright teenagers who decided to drop out of Stanford University, a renowned and esteemed educational institution in the US, have created a fascinating story of extraordinarily quick startup success. In April 2021, 19-year-olds Aadit Palicha and Kaivalya Vohra founded Zepto, a 10-minute delivery platform. However, that is not the most notable aspect. The most remarkable aspect is that Zepto was just launched in 2021, following the COVID-19 pandemic. This implies that the company went from having no revenue at all to being worth millions of dollars in just a few months.

2001-born Aadit Palicha is one of the youngest CEOs of a billion-dollar Indian company. CEO and founder of Zepto in its first year brought in an astounding Rs 7400 crore ($900 million) in valuation. Together with co-founder and childhood friend Kaivalya Vohra, Aadit wrote one of the most remarkable growth stories in Indian corporate history.

In 2023, the company was valued at $1.4 billion, or more than Rs 11000 crore. Aadit to one of the wealthiest individuals in the nation, with a 2022 Hurun list net worth of Rs 1,200. Kaivalya Vohra, his childhood friend and co-founder, also has a net worth of Rs 1,000 crore.

About Aadit Palicha

Mumbai-born Aadit Palicha began his career in business at the age of 17. Before moving to Stanford University in the US to study computer engineering, he started a firm called GoPool. He chose to drop out of the programme to concentrate on his business even though he was in the middle of his studies. Though it was a risky decision, he was fortunate.

Zepto is an online grocery delivery business that Aadit and his friend Kaivalya Vohra launched in 2021. After operating for just one month, the firm was valued at $200 million. In the middle of the Covid-19 crisis, Aadit founded this business to deliver groceries within ten minutes, and his idea proved to be wildly successful.

Zepto’s sales could potentially surpass those of offline retail major DMart in the next 18-24 months, while the former’s top line could scale to over Rs 2.4 trillion in the next 5-10 years, said co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Aadit Palicha on Saturday.

"DMart is a $30-billion company, and we are only 4.5 times our size in sales. If we are able to execute well, we will continue to grow 2-3 times every year and potentially surpass it in the next 18-24 months,” said Palicha, while speaking at the seventh JIIF Foundation Day event in New Delhi.

"If we execute well, we can realistically take this business from Rs 10,000-plus crore in top line today to potentially Rs 2.5 trillion in top line over the next 5-10 years," he added.
