PhonePe introduces Amitabh Bachchan's iconic voice for payment confirmations on its smart speaker, enhancing user experience.
In India, digital payments have a history dating back quite some time, but it gained significant traction, especially after the demonetization move. The momentum further surged during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, many places that accept digital payments feature a smart speaker. After making a payment, a voice announces that a specific amount has been received in the wallet. Now, imagine the delight of having none other than the legendary Hindi film actor, Amitabh Bachchan, confirming your payment. Well, get ready to experience this unique thrill, as PhonePe has just introduced the first-ever celebrity voice feature.
So, what exactly will Amitabh Bachchan do? When you make a payment through the PhonePe wallet, you will hear Amitabh Bachchan's distinctive voice confirming your payment on the smart speaker. This marks the first instance of a celebrity's voice being incorporated in this manner. Initially available in Hindi and English, PhonePe plans to introduce this feature in other languages as well, although it might take some time.
PhonePe introduced its smart speaker service just a year ago, and it's already a hit. The company reports that four million devices are currently in use by merchant partners across 19,000 postal codes in India, covering over 90% of the country. These devices have facilitated transactions worth Rs 100 crore (1,000 million) throughout the country.
Vivek Lohcheb, Head of Offline Business at PhonePe, believes that Amitabh Bachchan's iconic voice will be instantly recognizable to customers. His voice is famous worldwide and universally loved. Hearing his confirmation after making a payment will undoubtedly make customers feel more satisfied with the entire transaction process.
