Daryl Mitchell was dismissed in controversial circumstances during the India vs New Zealand second T20I. Mitchell was given out LBW off the bowling of Krunal Pandya for one in the sixth over, to leave the Black Caps in trouble at 43-3.

Mitchell seemed to have missed the ball while trying to work it on the leg side. The on-field umpire raised his finger and the batsman asked for the DRS after consulting with Kane Williamson. The third umpire, Shaun Haig, stayed with the on-field call and this caused a huge debate as there was a clear indication on the hotspot that the ball hit the inside edge of the bat.

Williamson wan't happy but the on-field umpires told Mitchell he had to go.

The decision was questioned by cricket experts and fans alike. ‘It’s ridiculous’, said former New Zealand bowler Simon Doull on air while adding that there was a clear inside edge. Even Indian commentators said that it was very bizarre and Mitchell looked not out.

Several fans were quick to react to this controversial call.

India beat New Zealand by seven wickets in the second Twenty20 International to tie the three-match series at 1-1.

However, on RTS or Snicko, it didn’t show any spike as the ball went past the bat. After the three negatives on Hawk-Eye, third umpire Shaun Haig reckoned there was no bat involved and declared the batsman out.

Mitchell clearly believed there was an inside edge and spoke to India skipper Rohit Sharma seeking a solution. MS Dhoni also joined the discussion, but it all proved useless. With no change in the decision possible, Mitchell was told to return to the dugout.

Some reports also added that Rohit Sharma was not allowed to call him back. Meanwhile, Kane Williamson could be called in front of the match referee for his dissent after the decision.
