India's star duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma achieved a remarkable feat during the Asia Cup Super 4s match against Sri Lanka at Colombos R. Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday. They became the fastest pair to complete 5000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs).

Kohli and Sharma have formed a formidable partnership for India in ODIs, accumulating over 5000 runs together in just 86 innings. Their partnership boasts an impressive average of 62.47, with 18 centuries and 15 half-century partnerships to their credit. This achievement places them as the eighth-best pair in the history of ODI cricket.

Prior to Kohli and Rohit, the record for the quickest pair to reach 5000 ODI runs was held by West Indies legends Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes, who achieved this milestone in 97 innings. They are followed by Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist of Australia (104 innings), and Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka (105 innings).

In addition to this record, Rohit and Kohli also became the first Indian non-opening duo to reach 5000 ODI runs. The global record for the most runs scored as a pair in one-day internationals is held by Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, who scored 8227 runs in 176 innings.
