This Shah Rukh Khan heroine did only one film before she tied the knot with one of India's richest men
Making your Bollywood debut with a Shah Rukh Khan film has been a dream for countless actors. For actresses, being paired opposite him in the first movie is a big deal. For most, this sets them up for a promising career. Just ask Deepika Padukone or Anushka Sharma! But there was one actress before them who had a memorable debut opposite Shah Rukh but never worked again.
The actress who quit Bollywood after just one film
Gayatri Joshi had a memorable debut in the 2004 release Swades. The Ashutosh Gowariker film did not do well at the box office but was critically acclaimed. Many called the film the best in its leading star Shah Rukh Khan’s career and critics said it was his best performance. Gayatri, a debutant, was also praised. But Gayatri’s Bollywood career was short-lived. Soon after the release of the film, she left films.
Gayatri Joshi’s married life
Having worked as a model and even competed in Miss India, Gayatri had had a successful career in showbiz even before her Bollywood debut. So her retirement from films at the age of 27 did surprise many. But Gayatri did so because she wanted to focus on her family and personal life. In 2005, she tied the knot with Vikas Oberoi, a billionaire businessman who was, at one point, one of the richest men in India. According to Forbes, Vikas has a net worth of $6 billion (Rs 50,000 crore).
After her marriage, Gayatri settled in Mumbai. The couple has two children. Last year, Gayatri and Vikas were briefly in news after they survived a fatal car crash in Italy that claimed the lives of two others.
