With the official auction just days away, the hype for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 is well and truly underway with all the eight teams officially announcing their retained and released players ahead of the upcoming season.

The 2008 premier league winners Rajasthan Royals have failed to replicate the dazzling form since the first edition of the tournament.

Royals did make it into the playoffs during the 2018 season but finished 7th in 2019.

The Rajasthan-based franchise recently announced the appointment of Australia cricketer Steve Smith as the new skipper of the side going into the 2020 season of IPL. 

RR also decided to traded their long-time captain Rahane to Delhi Capitals for Rahul Tewatia with Dhawal Kulkarni also being traded to Mumbai Indians but have brought in Ankit Rajpoot from Kings XI Punjab.

Traded-: Mayank Markande from Mumbai Indians, Rahul Tewatia from Delhi Capitals, Dhawal Kulkarni to Mumbai Indians, K Gowtham to Kings XI Punjab and Ankit Rajpoot from Kings XI Punjab.

Released: Ashton Turner, Oshane Thomas, Shubham Ranjane, Prashant Chopra, Ish Sodhi, Aryaman Birla, Jaydev Unadkat, Rahul Tripathi, Stuart Binny, Liam Livingstone, Sudheshan Midhun.

Retained: Steve Smith (C), Jos Buttler,  Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, Riyan Parag, Varun Aaron,  Sanju Samson, Shreyas Gopal, Manan Vohra, Mahipal Lomror, Shashank Singh.
