Rahul Dravid, the head coach of the India men's cricket team and former captain, has expressed his disapproval of the 'Do it for Dravid' campaign that has gained traction on social media. As he prepares to step down from his coaching role after the final match, fans have been rallying behind the sentiment that the team should secure victory as a tribute to the legendary cricketer.

When questioned about the 'Do it for Dravid' campaign, Dravid made it clear that he does not support the initiative as it goes against his personal values. He emphasized that the team's motivation to win should not be driven by a farewell gesture to him, but rather by their own determination to seize the opportunity that lies before them.

“It’s totally against who I am as a person and it’s totally against my values. You know, I don’t really believe in this ‘Do it for somebody’. I love that quote about somebody asking somebody else, ‘Why do you want to climb Mount Everest?’ and he says ‘I want to climb Mount Everest because it’s there. Why do we want to win this World Cup? Because it’s there,” Dravid said while speaking to Star Sports.

He also requested that the presenter, Jatin Sapru, have the campaign removed.

“It’s not for anyone, it’s not for anybody, it’s just there to win. I just want to play good cricket and yeah, doing it for someone is totally against who I am as a person and what I believe in so I don’t want to talk about it and discuss it. If you can get that campaign removed, I will appreciate it.”

India will be facing South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados on Saturday. If India emerges victorious in the final, it will mark a significant milestone for Dravid, as it will be his first World Cup trophy either as a player or coach. Dravid experienced a heartbreaking loss in the 2003 ODI World Cup final as a player and also captained India in the 2007 World Cup, where unfortunately his team was eliminated in the first stage.
