Legends like Dhoni know when to retire: MSK Prasad on MSD's retirement plans

After speculations of retirement making the rounds, former Indian captain MS Dhoni had broken his silence and dismissed the reports.

Ahead of India’s final group stage match in the World Cup against Sri Lanka, Dhoni said, “I don’t know when I will retire. But a lot of people want me to retire before tomorrow’s game,” according to ABP News.

Today (21 July) while announcing Team India's squad for West Indies tour, MSK Prasad was asked about Dhoni and his retirement. 

"He's unavailable for this series but we had certain roadmaps&plans till WC. Subsequently, we've laid down a few more plans and thought of giving as many opportunities to Pant and to see he is groomed. This is our plan right now".When asked if it is this the end of the road for Dhoni, MSK Prasad answered saying, "I can't answer on it... It's totally up to him".

"Retirement is totally individual...Legends like Dhoni knows when to retire...but as the selection committee, we have to make roadmap...so we started to give the chance youngsters like Pant."

The speculations about Dhoni’s retirement came after a PTI report stated that India’s match against SL at the World Cup could be MS Dhoni’s last.

“You never know with MS Dhoni. But it is unlikely that he will continue to play for India after this World Cup. But since his decisions to quit captaincy from the three formats have been taken so suddenly, it is very difficult to predict at the moment,” a senior BCCI official had told PTI.
