Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde made a grand announcement on Friday, 5 July, declaring a cash reward of Rs 11 crore for the victorious Indian cricket team that clinched the T20 World Cup. The announcement took place in the central hall of the Vidhan Bhavan, the state legislature complex. The event saw the felicitation of four Mumbai players from the team - captain Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shivam Dubey.

CM Shinde, in his address, expressed immense joy over the team's triumph against arch-rivals Pakistan in the World Cup. He specifically lauded Suryakumar Yadav for his outstanding catch in the final match against South Africa.

Shinde also acknowledged the valuable contributions of support team members Paras Mhambre and Arun Kanade by honoring them. He further praised the Mumbai Police for their efficient crowd management during the team's victory parade in south Mumbai.

During the legislative assembly session, Suryakumar Yadav humbly admitted that the historic catch simply fell into his hands, attributing his success to luck. In a light-hearted moment, Rohit Sharma jokingly remarked that it was fortunate the catch landed in Yadav's hands, as otherwise, he might have been dropped from the team in the next match, eliciting laughter from the audience.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar emphasized that not only Rohit Sharma but the entire nation would have been disheartened had Suryakumar Yadav missed that crucial catch. He highlighted the emotional intensity of the Indian people.

Similarly, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed pride in the Indian team for bringing the World Cup back home.
