Nepal's cricket sensation, Kushal Malla, etched his name in the annals of history during the inaugural match of the men's cricket event at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. The 19-year-old prodigy displayed an awe-inspiring performance, smashing an unbeaten 137 runs off a mere 50 deliveries. In doing so, he shattered the record for the fastest T20I hundred ever achieved, reaching the three-figure mark in a mind-boggling 34 deliveries.

Malla's extraordinary feat, coupled with a record-breaking fifty from Dipendra Singh Airee, propelled Nepal to an insurmountable total of 314-3 at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket field on Wednesday. Their combined efforts left their opponents in utter dismay, as they struggled to contain the relentless onslaught.

Notably, Kushal Malla is not only a formidable left-handed batter but also possesses exceptional skills in left-hand spin bowling. With an impressive track record, having represented Nepal in 29 ODIs and 15 T20I matches, Malla has already left an indelible mark on the cricketing world. Furthermore, he boasts an impressive ODI hundred to his name.

Who is Kushal Malla?

Kushal Malla, a rising star in the world of cricket, made his international debut in 2019 during the Singapore T20 tri-series against Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, his debut was not as successful as he had hoped, as he was dismissed for a mere two runs and conceded 28 runs off his three overs of bowling.

However, it was in 2020 that Kushal truly caught the attention of cricket enthusiasts worldwide. At the tender age of 15 years and 340 days, he showcased his immense talent by scoring a remarkable fifty in his first One Day International (ODI) appearance. This extraordinary feat occurred during Nepal's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 clash against the United States of America in Kirtipur. With Nepal struggling at 47-4, Kushal's composed innings of 50 runs off 51 deliveries proved to be a game-changer, rescuing his team from a precarious situation. In achieving this milestone, he surpassed the previous record set by his compatriot, Rohit Paudel.

Not only did Kushal become the youngest player to score a fifty in ODIs, but he also holds the distinction of being the third youngest player to reach the 50-run mark in the shortest format of the game. In the finals of the Nepal Tri-Nation T20I series against the Netherlands, at the age of 17 years and 50 days, he displayed his exceptional skills once again by scoring an unbeaten 50. This remarkable achievement etched his name into the annals of cricket history.

His sole One Day International (ODI) century, to this day, was achieved during the ACC Premier Cup in July 2023. Displaying exceptional prowess, he crafted an unbeaten 108 runs off a mere 64 deliveries, propelling his team to a resounding victory over Oman.

The young player was a member of the Nepal squad that recently participated in the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup. Placed in Group A alongside India and Pakistan, the emerging team unfortunately failed to secure a victory throughout the competition.
