Several trees in Dwarka's Sector 21 were uprooted following a heavy downpour that brought in gusty winds on Saturday. The city witnessed heavy rainfall for two hours which saw many trees not being able to withstand the strong winds. Some trees fell on to the roads blocking the rod, while other trees were blown on to the roads causing traffic congestion.

Locals say as the trees kept falling, they did not see any help from authorities and were left helpless to wait till the rain stops and clear the roads themselves. Even though over 100 trees were reported to have fallen, no untoward incident was reported.

"This area sees heavy traffic and there is constant movement of the vehicle, with the trees blocking the road there was traffic jam, which further led to noise pollution,"said a local.

According to the residents the area saw traffic jam for three hours and most of them moved the trees to make way for vehicles. But the authorities denied this claim, "We reached the spot and cleared the trees as soon as we got calls of tree falling," said a civic official.

Many said they were not happy with the loss of the trees, as the city has lost its green cover to growing concrete jungle.

"I wonder how these trees will be replanted, already we are losing so many trees in name of development, and now the trees that have grown tall and were planted years ago are meeting this fate. Like this no tees will be left if we don't take appropriate steps right now," said Sudha , a local school-girl.

"Delhi is turning into a barren blemish landscape, we really need to plan a way through which one can save trees and curb deforestation. The scale of pollution is high and the delayed monsoon is an indicator of it, we have to save the trees if we need to survive," said Poonam Dhingra, a local school teacher.

PRUNE THE TREES SOON: LOCALS

Many locals said they were not happy with the loss of the trees, as the city has lost its green cover to growing concrete jungle. Locals also wanted the authorities to prune trees before the onset of monsoon.
