The city received relief from the blistering heat as dust storm enveloped Delhi and National Capital Region on Friday. Thunderstorm and rain were also witnessed at some parts of Delhi, dropping the temperature by few notches. According to airport authorities, as many as 24 incoming flights were diverted out of Delhi because of the dust storm. A minimum delay of an hour was also reported for the departure of many flights.

Vehicles stopped by the roadside while pedestrians ran for cover. The heavy winds also uprooted trees in parts of Delhi. According to the weather reports, the mercury dropped to 23 degrees Celsius following the dust storm and rain. It was a welcome relief from the scorching heat for the citizens as the city recorded maximum and minimum temperatures of 33 degree Celsius and 22 degree Celsius, respectively.

The weather is likely to witness thunderstorm and rain for the next 24-48 hours, according to the meteorological department. Meanwhile, traffic came to a standstill in many parts of Delhi as the dust storm hit the national Capital during evening peak hours.
