Researchers at IIT Delhi have given new hope to brain tumour patients with their recent study, published in the prestigious journal Biomaterials. They may have found a novel treatment for glioblastoma, the most common and aggressive brain tumour in adults.

Glioblastoma is hard to treat, even with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Most patients diagnosed with this cancer have a life expectancy of only 12–18 months.

Under the guidance of Jayanta Bhattacharyya, an associate professor at IIT Delhi, PhD student Vidit Gaur conducted this promising study. Vidit developed a new nanoformulation called Immunosomes. This new approach aims to improve treatment effectiveness for brain tumours, offering new hope for patients with glioblastoma.

In their study, mice with glioblastoma treated with Immunosomes showed complete tumour eradication and remained tumour-free for at least three months. Additionally, the treatment triggered a strong immune response to fight brain cancer.

This breakthrough offers a promising new avenue for treating glioblastoma, potentially improving survival rates and quality of life for patients.
