Prince Kumar Singh did not let a lack of resources hinder his ambitions, succeeding in multiple competitive exams without any coaching. Although his family faced financial difficulties, Prince had big dreams and worked tirelessly to achieve them. Born in Rohtas, Bihar, Prince Kumar Singh hails from a lower-middle-class family. His father serves as a havildar in the Assam Rifles, and his mother is a homemaker. Prince completed his schooling in Bhabua, Kaimur district, before earning a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from NIT Jalandhar. After graduating in 2020, he worked in the chemical industry in Gujarat. In 2021, he left his job to focus entirely on preparing for the UPSC exams.

Despite facing numerous failures in his first year of attempting various competitive exams, Prince remained determined. After two years of relentless effort, he secured an All India Rank of 177 in the SSC CGL 2022, obtaining a position as an Assistant Audit Officer in Delhi. He also cleared the 67th BPSC exam with a rank of 222, becoming a Block Development Officer. Although he twice cleared the written test for CAPF AC, he did not make the final list. In 2023, he reached the UPSC Civil Services interview round and achieved the 15th rank in the Indian Forest Service exam.

Initially, Prince couldn't even clear the prelims in his first two attempts. His family's financial constraints prevented him from affording expensive UPSC coaching. He couldn't join test series during his Mains preparation but stayed motivated, relying on UPSC toppers' answer sheets and previous years' papers for his preparation. He only joined coaching for the interview stage.

Despite his hard work, Prince failed the shot put event in the CAPF Commandant physical test. Unable to afford UPSC coaching in Delhi, he initially thought cracking the exam was beyond his reach and considered a career in teaching.

For the UPSC Civil Services exam, Prince chose Sociology as his optional subject but opted for Chemical Engineering and Forestry for the Indian Forest Service, which were easier for him given his educational background.

In an interview, Prince mentioned that his inspiration to join the civil services came during the COVID-19 pandemic when he saw the dedication of the collectors in Kota and Patna. This experience made him realize the power and impact of the DM position.

Currently, Prince is undergoing training as a Block Development Officer. Once he receives his offer letter from UPSC, he will head to LBSNAA in Mussoorie for IFS training.
