Thursday seems to be the new Friday in the film industry with a lot of production houses deciding to release their film a day before judgment day. The same holds good for Kempegowda, a film that has already been in the news for replacing Gun (the director of which threatened suicide if his film was taken off the screens).

This controversy came close on the heels of yet another wherein the KFCC president Basant Kumar Patil had allegedly stated that he would not allow Kempegowda to hit the screens before director-actor Sudeep cleared his previous dues to yet another producer. The matter came to a close when Sudeep proved that he did not owe anybody and even accepted an apology for the comments that were made against him.

With troubles behind them, team Kempegowda gets down to talking about the film itself, finally. Produced by R Shankar, Kempegowda, a remake of the Tamil film Singam, promises to be an out-and-out commercial venture.

“The highlight of the film would be the fact that it is technically advanced. Be the kind of equipment that has been used to shoot — including use of still camera to shoot film; to the look and feel of the film thanks to digital imaging, we have tried to incorporate new technology at every stage of filmmaking. And the good news is that it has worked,” states Sudeep.

While the songs of Kempegowda are already chart toppers, the actor-director says that it is the visual appeal that adds to the magic. “We may not have shot the songs abroad, but they don’t look like they have been shot within the country either. Two of the songs were shot in Bhuj and if you watch them, you would not believe it was shot at a location within our own country. So you see, there is so much to explore right here,” he explains.

Another highlight would be the fights that have been shot like a story by itself. “Some of the fights include a lot of quick cuts which add more thrill to the tension on screen. I have also directed a hunt and shoot kind of a fight that I hope the audience will enjoy watching. It is almost like a live videogame on screen,” says Sudeep, adding that the performance by the villain, dubbing artiste-turned-actor Ravishankar, has also done wonders to creating the drama on screen. So watch out for that.
