Jailer box office collection day 2: Rajinikanth film continues to dominate, mints Rs 143 crore worldwide in two days

Headlined by Rajinikanth as Muthuvel 'Tiger' Pandian who served as the jailer of the Tihar Prison, the action-comedy Jailer was released in the theatres worldwide on Thursday, August 10. Though the film has received mixed reviews from audiences and critics, it has set the box office on fire.

Jailer has grossed Rs 143 crore worldwide within two days of its theatrical release, as per the entertainment tracking portal Sacnilk.com. The Rajinikanth-starrer had collected Rs 92 crore gross worldwide on its first day, becoming the third-highest opener of the year for all Indian films behind only Adipurush and Pathaan. 

While Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan-starrer Om Raut's mythological drama earned Rs 126 crore gross, Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham-starrer Siddharth Anand's action-packed entertainer collected Rs 106 crore gross on their first day at the global box office.

Talking about Jailer's domestic earnings, the action-comedy had collected Rs 48.35 crore on its opening day and saw a drop of around 47% on its second day with Rs 25.75 crore on the second day, taking the two-day net India collection to Rs 74.1 crore. On Friday, Jailer also saw competition from three other major releases across India - Chiranjeevi's action drama Bhola Shankar, Sunny Deol's patriotic actioner Gadar 2, and Akshay Kumar's satirical comedy OMG 2.

Directed by Nelson, apart from Rajinikanth, Jailer features an ensemble of actors including Tamannaah Bhatia, Jackie Shroff, Mohanlal, Ramya Krishnan, Shiva Rajkumar, Vinayakan, Yogi Babu, and Mohanlal among others. Jailer is Nelson's fourth directorial after Nayanthara's Kolamaavu Kokila (2018), Sivakarthikeyan's Doctor (2021), and Vijay's Beast (2022).
