After reports made the rounds that Meesha Shafi will be facing jail term in 'criminal defamation' case, her legal team has denied it with a statement. Asad Jamal, the lawyer took to his Twitter page and penned a statement regarding the media reports claiming that Meesha has lost the case against Ali Zafar and will be imprisoned for three years.

He wrote, "This is with ref to the fake news claiming that my client Meesha Shafi has been sentenced to three years imprisonment. No such verdict has been passed by the trial court in the frivolous criminal defamation case instituted by Ali Zafar against several women. Read the complete statement below."

The statement read as "A fake news relating to the criminal defamation case instituted by Ali Zafar against several women including my client Meesha Shafi, is doing the rounds on social media. It is ridiculous how the news media have jumped to spreading the fake news, misleading their viewers and readers by relying on an imagined reaction from my client to the imagined court verdict."

It further stated, "Let there be no confusion that no such verdict has been passed by any court in Pakistan. In fact, the court has not even indicted any of the several men and women accused by Ali Zafar of spreading falsehood. Further, the delay so far has been caused by the prosecution which is evident from the fact that it took the adjudicating judge to pass strict orders for the appearance of the prosecutor to submit the investigation report. We are confident that the prosecution's case cannot succeed."

Daily Mail also reported that along with Shafi, eight other people who accused Ali have also been charged in the defamation case.
