Ira Dubey is all set for her debut on the small and this is not going to be a daily soap. The actor, who also  theatre personality, Lillette Dubey’s daughter, will host a TV show.

Says Ira, “Chicks on Flicks will be an entirely a new concept in India. I am hosting the show with Neha  Sareen. Both of us are going to  provide a different dimension to movie criticism.”

The show will focus on Hollywood films and the duo will try to review them in their own way. They will also evaluate the latest DVD releases. And this isn’t an easy job.
Ira along with Neha have gone through a rigorous training process in the USA before the show. So, what’s her take on Indian reviewers?

“I guess, here they lack objectivity and their review talk a lot about  vested interests.”

Any particular reviewers whom she follows? “I guess it has to be Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun Times). He has an amazing understanding of films and his language is so lucid that anyone can understand it,” she adds

As a part of her job, she has met Daniel Craig in Los Angeles when he was promoting his movie Quantum of Solace. “He is an amazing actor and genuinely a very warm person. But, I must admit it was hard to talk about anything else about him besides his amazing physique,” she laughs.

When quizzed about her favourite films, she names all textbook movies. “My favourites would be Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon, Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane and Federico Fellini’s 8 1/2. I would also prefer Shawshank  Redemption,” she says.

Ira made her stage debut in Rohan Sippy’s The President Is Coming and has been actively involved with  experimental theatre since then. “With background of theatre,
understanding cinema becomes easier. Theatre will always remain my first love. But, I am game for experiment with other medium,” she says.
