R.I.P. Vinod Khanna: A look at Bollywood's style icon and his journey to super stardom

He was considered one of the biggest heartthrobs in the 70s and 80s. His style and demeanour was something no one could miss. Vinod Khanna who ruled the roost in his prime, is no more.

The actor passed away at 70. Khanna who was suffering from bladder cancer is no more. The veteran star was admitted at a South Mumbai hospital for around a month, after he complained of uneasiness.

Doctors had reported that he was suffering from dehydration and then a picture of him from the hospital went viral on the Internet. The whole nation was in a state of shock when that picture of Khanna left everyone heartbroken.  He was recovering and was responding to medicines but now, it seems the evergreen actor lost the battle with cancer. 

The legendary actor passed away on Thursday morning. May his soul rest in peace. 

Here's looking back at the actors' incredible journey from being a villain to one of the finest gentlemen ever. 

Starting off:

Vinod saab started off with negative characters. With no lineage and godfather to piggyback on, his good looks fetched him his first role - as a prime antagonist. That time, typecasting was one part of the game and he was stereotyped as a villain.

Hero material:

It was only after few years that people realised that he is completely hero material. His good looks coupled with his flamboyance made women go weak in their knees. He was soon offered a solo film as a lead and a star was born.

Ruling the roost:

He was the second highest paid actor at one point in his career. Although Rajesh Khanna is remembered as the first superstar, Vinod saab has ruled the roost for years. One hit after the other, he was the typical commercial hero everyone wanted to watch on screen. 

A family man:

He has always been a devoted husband and a doting father. Till date, he has great relationship with all his kids and they were by his side when he breathed his last on Thursday morning. 

Style and candour:

His demeanour and flamboyance was tough to match. He had a disarming candour that could make anyone fall in love with him. The innocence coupled with that sex appeal - Vinod saab was one in a million. 

His political life:

He joined politics in the late 90s and was a dedicated leader in Gurdaspur. Working for the welfare of his people, he has made them proud and helped them in every way possible.
