This Indian Military Academy passing-out parade pictures show Indian Army's future is in safe hands

Of the total 459 cadets who took part in the parade, 382 were Indian and 77 were foreign cadets from nine ally nations.

The Indian Military Academy (IMA) held its 136th passing out parade at Dehradun in Uttarakhand today.

Of the total 459 cadets who took part in the parade, 382 were Indian and 77 were foreign cadets from nine ally nations - Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives, Fiji, Mauritius, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Lesotho, and Tajikistan.

The IMA was established in 1932 as the officer training academy of the Indian Army, when the British after World War I were eventually convinced by the Indian leaders of the need to establish an officer training college.

The academy is located at the foothills of the Himalayas, about 8 km west of Dehradun, spanning 1,400 acres.

A total of 459 young officers participated in the passing-out parade of the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun. Of them, 382 cadets will be joining the Indian Army. Last year, 347 cadets had joined the Indian Army as officers.

The cadets will be distributed into regiments across India. Chief Reviewing Officer of the parade, Lieutenant General Cherish Mathson, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Command, congratulated the cadets and took the salute at the passing out ceremony.

3. The coveted Sword of Honour

The coveted Sword of Honour

The prestigious 'Sword of Honour', which is awarded to the trainee who comes first in terms of order of merit during the training, was received by the young officer Ashat Raj.

The Gold Medal was awarded to Surendra Singh Bisht among the Indians. In regards to the foreign cadets, Shirzad Sarbaaz of Afghanistan won the gold medal.

Like last year, Uttar Pradesh topped the state-wise cadet division with a significant number of 72 cadets belonging from the state, followed by Bihar (46), and Haryana (40). This is an even greater number compared to last year's 53 cadets from UP, which marks an increasing number of individuals from the state and from the country in general faring well to serve in the Indian Army.
