Three days after Uddhav Thackeray said Shiv Sainiks would be the first to lay the first brick of Ram Temple at Ayodhya, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Nashik on Thursday that such loudmouths — "badbole log" — should respect the judicial process and refrain from making such comments.

While he did not name anyone, the PM, while addressing a rally in Nashik before the state polls, said political leaders should refrain from making such statements.

"I want to tell these bayan bahadurs aur badbole log to have some respect for the legal system and the courts... Everyone in the country respects the Supreme Court. It is hearing the case. I want to tell these people with folded hands — for the sake of Lord Ram, have faith in the judicial system," he said.

The SC is holding daily hearings in the 60-year-old Ayodhya title suit case. It is aiming to finish hearing arguments by October 18.

The Prime Minister, without making any direct references, tagged such talk as "anaap shanap" (rubbish). "I urge you and request you with folded hands not to make such immature and unnecessary statements," he said.

POWER PLAY

The scales seem to have tilted in BJP-SENA equation for Maharashtra
Despite Uddhav’s rhetoric on Ayodhya, PM’s Thursday remarks put to rest any remaining doubt about who will call the shots if a Sena-BJP alliance is to be struck
Sena has long held that it is the ‘big brother’ in the saffron alliance in the state. But with BJP’s massive win in the LS polls, Sena is now ‘lahan bhau’
The Sena no longer seems to be in a position to demand an equal split of seats or the CM’s chair

The Shiv Sena, which has been quite vocal on the issue of construction of Ram Temple at the Ayodhya site, has asked the Modi government to take steps in that direction as it did on repealing Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

On Monday, Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had urged the Centre to introduce a law to build a Ram Temple.

On Sunday, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said that the fundamental rights of Hindus are above the property rights of the Muslims. He also said that the Supreme Court's decision in November this year will be in favour of the construction of Ram Mandir.

"The temple which is at the birthplace of Lord Ram cannot be removed. The fundamental right of Hindus to worship is above the property rights of Muslims and I am confident that the Supreme Court will deliver its verdict in our favour in November and the work of temple construction will begin after that,'' he noted.

Union home minister and BJP President Amit Shah will visit Mumbai on Sunday and may extend his stay till Monday to finalise a seat-sharing arrangement with Shiv Sena. Sena insiders confirmed that Shah will hold a meeting with Uddhav at the latter's Matoshree residence on either of the two days. Sena sources said the party may agree to 135 seats while the balance 153 will be for BJP and allies. However, BJP is trying for more than 135 seats, considering its increased strength. Both parties hinted that a pact is likely to be be made after the meeting of Shah and Thackeray in the presence of CM Devendra Fadnavis.
