Former Bihar Chief Minister and convicted Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) President Lalu Prasad Yadav returned to Ranchi's Hotwar jail on Monday, following the completion of his three-day parole to attend his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav's wedding in Patna on May 12.

He has returned to fulfil the formalities related to the six-week provisional bail granted to him by the Jharkhand High Court on May 11 for his treatment at specialised hospitals. The RJD chief is expected to be out of jail again on Tuesday after the paperwork related to bail is complete.

Lalu, who faces multiple health problems including diabetes, hypertension and kidney ailments and was accompanied by two government doctors during his parole, spent the night in the jail premises instead of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, where he was admitted before being granted parole.

Lalu is serving sentence in three fodder scam cases and is in jail since December 23, 2017. However, since March 29, when he was admitted to RIMS and later shifted to AIIMS-Delhi only to return to RIMS earlier this month, Lalu has not spent a night in jail.

RJD MLA Bhola Yadav, a close aide of Lalu, told reporters that he smelled conspiracy in keeping Lalu in jail for the night. "We had reported to the jail administration and it was expected that he will be sent to RIMS as he is still not well. But he spent the night in jail despite being in poor health," he said and accused the state government of having a hand in this matter.

He added, "They are playing with Lalu ji's health by not adhering to the recommendations of the doctors of AIIMS-Delhi, who had said that he needs supervision and treatment under specialised doctors. There are no specialised doctors in the jail."

Sources said Lalu's blood pressure and blood sugar level were fluctuating when he returned to the jail. He had sought a 12-week bail but was granted six-weeks for his treatment.

An RJD source said that a decision related to Lalu's further treatment will be taken after he returns to Patna on bail.
