Prime Minister Narendra Modi while launching a record 81 projects ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, lauded efforts of the Yogi Adityanath government in achieving the record of bringing Rs 60,000 crore investments in 24 districts in just five months after signing Rs 4.68 lakh crore MoUs during the investors' summit. Emboldened by the PM's praise, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "Uttar Pradesh will soon emerge as the new growth engine of India."
Speaking at the mega ceremony in Lucknow, the CM claimed that these projects would create more than 2 lakh job opportunities for the youth. He revealed that projects, worth another Rs 50,000 crore, were in pipeline and would be launched soon to speed up industrialisation in Uttar Pradesh.
He also took a dig at previous regimes claiming that what his government has achieved in just five months, Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati government could not do in five years.
An investment of Rs 54,000 crore was brought during five-year rule of Akhilesh Yadav regime while the amount was 57,000 crore during Mayawati's five year regime.
He said his government has removed the olden practice of allocating projects to few selected districts. "Earlier, investments were made in selected districts. My government has done away with that discrimination, and allocated 51 per cent of these projects in western UP, 27 per cent in central UP and Bundelkhand and 22 per cent in eastern UP to achieve an overall and inclusive industrial growth," he said.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who is also MP from Lucknow, said it was because of the PM's vision and Yogi Adityanath's relentless efforts that translated 90 MoUs into matured investment in record five months. "Uttar Pradesh has unlimited economic potential. After Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the most favourable destination for investors."
Singh also said that while law and order is a state subject, Centre would provide additional forces, if needed, for the security to industrialists setting up their units in Uttar Pradesh.
