The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy showers in Uttarakhand today, July 7. Due to this forecast, the weather department has issued a red alert for heavy rain in the region. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed the District Magistrates of all affected districts to remain vigilant. The IMD's forecast anticipates heavy to very heavy rainfall in nine districts of Uttarakhand.

To manage the situation, the Chief Minister has also directed Secretary of Disaster Management and Rehabilitation, Vinod Kumar Suman, along with other officials from the Disaster Management Department, to keep a close watch on all districts from the State Emergency Operations Center of USDMA.

Char Dham Yatra Suspended

In light of the heavy rainfall prediction, officials have suspended the Char Dham Yatra for July 7 in the Garhwal division. Vinay Shankar Pandey, Garhwal Commissioner, has ordered restrictions on vehicular movement on the Badrinath National Highway in Chamoli district due to debris blocking the road at multiple locations.

Chamoli Police announced on X (formerly Twitter), "The Badrinath National Highway has been blocked due to debris near Bhanerpani, old Nagar Panchayat Pipalkoti, Kanchen Ganga, Chhinka Paagalnala, and Helang in Chamoli district."

IMD Weather Update: Key Points

Heavy Rain in Uttarakhand: IMD predicts heavy showers in Uttarakhand today, July 7, with a red alert issued for the region. Nine districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Orange Warning for Other States: The IMD has issued an orange warning, indicating the possibility of heavy rains in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh.

East and Northeast India: Widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected in East and Northeast India until July 11.

Kerala: Heavy showers are forecasted to continue in Kerala until July 9.

Other Regions: IMD's press release dated July 6 predicts isolated heavy rainfall in Goa until July 10, in Maharashtra and Karnataka over the next three days, in Andhra Pradesh on July 7, and in Telangana over the next two days.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay informed about the weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
