Simply wearing long sleeves is not called winter fashion. To get the entire look whilst staying in Mumbai, it is important to dress the part and not make a mockery of yourself. Thus, it is important to follow the trends, but with a twang! However, the basic rules apply to all, such as wearing lots of red, brightening up your wardrobe and more...

Vivid colours
Designer Ashna A Kalra says, “This winter is all about brightening up the gloomy weather. There are a whole new set of trends to track this fall/winter. One can choose from jacquard jumper, cool printed V-neck lightweight sweaters or classic cashmere scarves with bold hues and a lot of detailing. One can put together oversized coats on narrow silhouettes.” The classic fall/winter colours, such as black, white, brown, grey, will be prevalent in this season as well. According to international runways, brighter and bolder hues like gold, vivid blue and deep jewel tones and oxblood have prominence on the fashion map. But most important is to experiment with the playful prints and bold colours.

Dress in layers
This trend needs to be worn with a great deal of caution, as it can add bulk to the unwanted parts of the body. While you prepare yourself to dress in layers, there are some rules: Do not wear a tank top over a tee, begin with layering from the skimpiest outfit to the fuller look. However, you can wear the skimpy bits outside, only if you want to highlight the cut or the silhouette. Also, it gets colder in the night, so keep a jumper or a jacket/blazer handy. Anita Dongre says, “The most basic and stylish must-haves for the winter could be beautiful cardigans, a stylish stole or scarf with ikkat, trendy trench coats, boots and uggs and some chunky accessories to complete the look.”

Footwear
Stylish they may be, refrain from boots as they might look bulky and inappropriate. If you have to wear them, Aprajita Toor, footwear designer suggests, “The colours to wear are deep purple, bottle green, coral blue and chutney green. One can wear faux fur boots, they spice up any outfit. Thigh-high boots are the in thing for this season. They can be embellished with embroidery, or to add old world charm, you can opt for lace boots. Velvet is another texture in boots which looks amazing and rich.”
