Auto drivers kill 60-year-old man in Mumbai

In a disturbing incident, a 60-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by a group of auto drivers when he complained about their refusal to ferry his guests. The police have arrested two of the drivers for the incident, in which the man’s son was also injured.

According to the police, on Tuesday evening, the deceased, Durgodhan Pandurang Kadam, a resident of Rupadevi society in Savarakar Nagar in Thane, went to the auto stand in
Indira Nagar to hail one for his guests.

The accused, Akhtarali Nababali Shaikh, 25, and Dilshad Sheralli Khan, 25, both auto drivers, were waiting at the stand.

The dispute started when Kadam asked Shaikh to take his guests to Thane railway station, but the latter refused. The verbal fight turned ugly when Shaikh called other auto drivers at the stand, who started thrashing Kadam. His son Sushil was also beaten up brutally when tried to intervene.

The locals and passers-by took both the injured to a nearby hospital, where Kadam was declared dead on arrival.

The police later arrested both the drivers, Shaikh and Khan. “The accused have been arrested under sections 302, 323 of the IPC,” said senior police inspector BR Chowdhary of Wagle Estate police station.
