Meanwhile, the top brass of the authority has taken a serious note of the Reliance Infrastructure-led consortium not informing them about another accident on July 4— on the metro site in Andheri, which claimed the life of a labourer.
Returning after a 10-day long trip to China, metropolitan commissioner Rahul Asthana called an urgent meeting of the officials of Larsen and Toubro (L&T), which is in charge of the civil work construction of country’s first monorail running between Chembur and Jacob circle through Wadala.
“We will get a clear idea only after the final inquiry report is submitted to us; however, we are not ruling out the possibility of some of the labourers tampering with the equipment, which could have led to the mishap,” informed Asthana.
He further added that the tilting of the beam, which was on the left-hand side of the route, remains a mystery.
“The tilting of the beam itself sparked off the mishap. The beam while being erected is supported by two strong cables, which hold it together. In this case, the very strong cables seem to have given up, resulting in the beam on the right side falling down. We are still waiting for the final report, which can weave these hints together,” added Asthana.
Meanwhile, Asthana also said that the authority has taken a very serious note of the Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) officials not informing MMRDA officials about the Navrang cinema metro mishap, which claimed the life of a construction labourer.
“I am shocked and surprised that they did not inform our officials. Metro construction is the responsibility of Reliance Infrastructure-led consortium as compared to the monorail—which is fully owned by us, they have to keep us informed about every single activity during the construction,” opined Asthana.
He added that he has taken this lapse of communication very seriously, and will pull up the concerned officials of MMOPL. “So far as the July 4 mishap is concerned, I am yet get the details, but prima facie, it looks to be the negligence of the worker, who slipped from the beam,” concluded Asthana.
